Eddie stars in new prime-time reality show

Eddie Hall - Solitary

OK, I’ve done some strange things and been in some strange places in my time. But Celebs in Solitary: Meltdown, which starts on Channel 5 on September 11 has to take the biscuit. In fact, it did quite literally take the biscuit. Luxuries like that were one of the things I was denied when I was locked in a room in a disused warehouse in Dublin for five days.

I should mention I agreed to go along with this set-up, the aim of which was to see how long people can negotiate without contact with the outside world. On Channel 5 at 9.15pm, you can see how I managed with just a bed, sink, shower and toilet for company. It was no picnic, I can tell you, but at least I wasn’t the only one to be put through this mental test. Anthea Turner, Shazia Mirza, and Professor Green all signed up as well. Cameras were trained on me at all times. I suppose you could look at it like Big Brother only you can’t see or hear the other contestants.

You’ll see on the show there were times when it got to me. I found it a little bit frustrating, especially as someone so used to having people around me and who loves more than anything spending time with his family. At least on I’m A Celebrity you get to sit round a fire and have a chat while eating a few bugs.

Still, it’s all about experience. I’m in a position to be offered and do things which very few people will ever experience. And I’ve reached that position through battling for years to become the World’s Strongest Man.

I could, of course, have smashed down the walls of my ‘pod’ any time I liked. But you’ll have to tune in to see whether I restrained myself!

Take care – Eddie x
